Game and Taimen Fishing

Overview

Mongolia’s deep water lakes and rivers are literally teeming with fish, especially during late August, September and October. As well as the Taimen you can catch Lennok, grayling and pike, among many others - click here for biological fish data.

The Taimen is the largest of the Salmon family. It is famous for its aggressive surface strikes on squirrel and mouse flies. Some consider them to be pre-historic trout.

Independent fishing in Mongolia is practically impossible to organise. By going through GWM as your outfitter we can organise your catch and release permits with the local soum director, the regional aimag govenor and the Ministry of Nature and Environment.

Every foreign tourist MUST have an official permit from the Ministry of Nature and Environment. These regulations apply for whatever you are fishing for.

Conservation, we are actively working with the Taimen Conservation Society and local communities to help educate people on how to look after the rivers and fish as well as visitors.

The Taimen fishing season starts on the 15th June.

We run our fishing trips on any river or lake in Mongolia, however we suggest that the ‘5 rivers area’ located in the North central region of Mongolia is the best. This area is 50 km South of the Aimag capital, Moron.

The fishing is based on the following rivers:-
Ider Gol,
Bugsei Gol,
Selenge Gol,
Delger Morun,
Chuluut Gol.
