Fèis is the Gaelic word for festival or feast and Rois is Gaelic for Ross-shire. Over the past 25 years the word "Fèis" has become synonymous with the Fèisean movement, a group of Gaelic arts tuition festivals, mainly for young people, which now take place throughout Scotland.
Fèis Rois has been providing tuition and performance of traditional Scottish music, song and dance in Ross and Cromarty since 1986.
I began lessons with the Feis Rois Kiltearn Fiddlers in 1999 when I was seven being taught by the leader of the Fiddlers, Alph Munro. I then took up guitar tuition through the Feis.
I have also attended every Fèis Rois Oigridh for P5-7 age group and the Fèis Rois nan Deugairean for secondary school pupils as well as monthly fiddle master classes with Gordon Gunn & Charlie McKerron and teenage groupwork specialist workshops.
