Most of those living with the surname "Wallator" live in Canada.  Two (or three) of Richard and Maria Wallator's grandsons emigrated to Canada at the beginning of the 20th century and two families settled in Alberta:

Herbert (b.1874 Haigh, Lancashire d. 1922 in Alberta, Canada)

  • Herbert first went to Canada in 1893, sailing from Liverpool to Quebec, aged 20 and single.  He stayed for 3 years.  He married in Spring 1898 and in the 1901 UK census (aged 27) he was working as a fruiterer and living with his wife Elizabeth (aged 23, b. St Helens) and daughter Mary (aged 1) at 107 Crab St., Prescot.  In 1910 Herbert emigrated to Edmonton, Canada (aged 31), with his wife Elizabeth (aged 32) and their first 3 children (May aged 9, Ida aged 7, and Sidney aged 4).  The ship's record for religion describes Elizabeth and children as Weslyan and Herbert as CofE.  In 1911 they were living at Strathcona and had an additional child, Gordon O aged 7 months.  There are records showing Elizabeth returned to the UK twice for holidays after Herbert died, in 1923 and 1936 (visiting Eccleston in Lancashire).  Their descendants live on, principally in Alberta and British Columbia, but also in New Zealand.  Details of Herbert's grave can be found here.

Edward (b. 1868, d. 1945 in Canada)

  • Edward married in the autumn of 1903 at Church Stretton to Elizabeth Lucy Humphrey.  They emigrated to Calgary, Canada in 1905 (Edward aged 37, Elizabeth Lucy aged 34) and their first son Chas R.C (aged <1yr), sailing from Liverpool to Montreal.  In 1911 they were living at Red Deer and had two additional children, Wilfred T (aged 3) and Trevor, aged 1.  Again, their descendants live on, principally in Alberta. There is now a link to an external family tree which has been created since this site published the information see External Links.

Ernest J.R. (b. 1872 Shropshire, d. 1943 Michigan USA)

Ernest went to Canada in 1905, sailing from Liverpool to Montreal his destination was Toronto.  He was aged 29 , single and described as a "Gardiner".  It appears he crossed the border into the USA at some stage.  He appears to have died at the age of 71 in Michigan, USA.  Details of his death and grave are here.

A lot of people emigrated from The United Kingdom during the latter part of the 19th century - prompted by the effects of the economic changes and industrialisation.  These resulted in employment becoming centred in the growing city areas and reducing the availability of work in agriculture in rural areas.  This might explain why several of this generation of the Wallator family opted to leave the UK.  Unfortunately, because the three cousins above left no brothers (only sisters) behind, the impact was that the Wallator name (or that spelling of it) died out in the UK - but some of the genes no doubt survive through the female line.
