Counselling with Angela Scott

Counselling is time set aside by you and a counsellor to look at what has brought you to counselling.

This might include talking about life events (past and present), feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour. The counsellor will do their best to help you to look at your issues, and to identify the right course of action for you, either to help you resolve your difficulties or help you find ways of coping. Talking about these things may take time, and will not necessarily all be included in one session. The number of sessions offered will be part of the initial assessment.

Angela trained initially as a couple counsellor and as such is based on psychodynamics. This approach stresses the importance of the unconscious and past experience in shaping current behaviour. You are encouraged to talk about childhood relationships with parents and other significant people. The psychodynamic approach is derived from psychoanalysis, but usually provides a quicker solution to emotional problems. Angela now uses a more integrative approach that is tailored to your needs.

Solution-focused brief therapy. This kind of therapy focuses on a particular issue and promotes positive change, rather than dwelling on the issue or past problems. You are encouraged to focus positively on what you do well, your strengths and resources and to set goals to achieve the changes you want to make.
