Jean qualified as a Medical Herbalist in 2001, and has experience of supporting people with cancer, working in conjunction with oncologists and after orthodox treatment had finished to help maintain health. In the UK medical herbalists are not allowed to treat cancer, but herbs can be an adjunct to orthodox treatments, for example helping with the side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Due to the complex interactions it is always best to consult a suitably qualified practitioner. Jean is a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists. Cancer Care and Massage Therapy
Karen is registered with the Iris Cancer Partnership, adapting massage for people who have had a history of cancer. This is suitable for clients who are currently in treatment as well as those who have been out of treatment for any number of years.
The initial consultation for adapting your massage will be a little longer than the standard format but usually only for the first visit. If you prefer to talk through any concerns beforehand on the telephone or meet up before making a booking then please get in touch to go over any questions you might have. Subsequent visits will just check in with how you are feeling and if needed adapt again, moving forward safely at a pace that suits you. The massage is adapted around your history of treatment but does not include manual lymphatic drainage. If you have had recent treatment for cancer then please contact your GP or specialist nurse just to make them aware that you are having massage beforehand.

Karen uses Songbird Zest wax for massage which was developed with Iris input, it is a gentle blend of lime and mandarin and natural beeswax which is also suitable for pregnancy massage, alternatively an unscented wax or oil is available if you prefer.
