Our Aims
Himalayan Children was originally set up to provide sponsorship for children at Lamdon School whose parents are not able to support the cost of their education.
The cost of boarding is £8 per week, but we will not sponsor a child until we can guarantee we can cover the cost for the full 4 years of secondary education. Students for sponsorship are recommended by the headmaster.
Himalayan Children was set up by Gail following her trekking visits to Ladakh; she has been joined by an enthusiastic team to help to manage the organisation and fundraising. The Trustees are paricularly grateful to Rinchen Dolkar, a Ladakhi who lives in Leh. She works tirelessly on behalf of the Trust, and is its local 'eyes and ears'; Rinchen co-ordinates Gail's visits, ensuring that her stays in Leh are as productive as possible, acting as translator when necessary, and being the local link for Himalayan Children when Gail returns home.
The success of the fund has allowed us to consider expanding our remit beyond Lamdon School, but always with the focus of furthering the education of young people in Ladakh. All sponsorships will be outlined in the e-mail Newsletter.
We guarantee that 100% of our fundraising, donations and sponsorship monies will go towards advancing the education and social needs of children in Ladakh.
Himalayan Children is a registered charity, reference number 1146569.
