Events during 2014
7th Devember 2014 - Christmas Fayre
The annual Christmas Fayre fundraising event took place at Rose's house, and was a very lively event, with a great choice of gifts, and Christmas treats for sale. We raised almost £700, so very many thanks to everyone involved : to those who donated raffle or tombola prizes, to the bakers who provided delicious refreshments on the day, and to those who baked goods to sell; to those who helped in many many other ways, and especially to the lovely Rose, who gave over her house for the day, at an already busy time of year. Your efforts are very muhc appreciated by the Trustees, and by the many Ladakhi children whose education we are now able to sponsor.
7th October
We were delighted to receive £800 from Taunton Vale Inner Wheel from this really fun event. Thank you for supporting us on our way to sponsor even more Ladakhi cildren.
20th July
Rose once again very kindly hosted an Open Garden to raise funds There was a raffle, a sale of plants, garden pots, and other interesting accessories for garden and conservatory. Lots of people joined us, and helped to raise funds, on a lovely day. Click here to see some photos. Thank you to everyone who came along, and especially to those who provided a fabulous selection of cakes.

22nd June
Bric once again organised a walk along the Somerset coast. We met at the Smugglers Inn, Blue Anchor. The main walk was 5.5 miles, with a shorter loop (3.4 miles) as an option for those who considered 6 miles a marathon, or who wanted to grab the best table at the lovely Driftwood Cafe, where the walk ended with tea and cakes, and ice creams. There was also a mid-walk stop for tea and cakes provided by Gail, and friends, to whom we are very grateful. So, the walking bit was just an interlude between refreshment stops!! Below are some views taken along the route. For further photos click here

Inner Wheel
The Taunton Vale branch of Inner Wheel, have chosen Himalayan Children as one of their annual overseas charities for 2014. We will be notifying our supporters of events they run.

"From the Viewpoint of a Starling"
Alexia Bartlett is kindly donating the money raised from her latet novel "From the viewpoint of a starling". She describes the book as "a dark, comic tale of hope and ambition. Revolving around the main theme of music, the story seeks to reflect both the comedy and tragedy of life in a rural backwater. It is a depiction of sub-suburban life, and a comment on the place that defines us."
She started writing the book two years ago, with the aim of contributing proceeds to Himalayan Children. As a teacher at Richard Huish College in Taunton, she actively supports the education of young people. She says : "I think this charity is vital in its work of developing the lives of students who might not normally have access to furthering education skills."
The book is priced at £4.99, and 400 copies have been printed. 100% of the money raised will be going straight to the charity. The book is available through Gail, or use the Contact page on this site to request a copy.
Very many thanks to Alexia for this very kind thought - we are in awe of anyone who writes a novel, and in particular of someone who writes to help others. The book is written under the name A. C. Vernon.

"Giving a Bit (www.givingabit.com)"
We have registered with the portal site "Giving a Bit" so that we might benefit from your online purchases. Himalayan Children receives a percentage of the cost of any purchases you make on line via the Giving a Bit site (through an agreement they have with a number of large retailers, not by charging you extra). So that we can take advantage of this, we would appreciate it if you could sign into Giving a bit www.givingabit.com; at the end of the process you are asked to select the charity to receive the donation. There are several charities with the name Himalayan, please make sure it is ours you select. Once you are set up, you should log into givingabit, then search for the shop you want to use. If your favourite retailer is not listed, you can request it, though it does take some time for it to be added. Clicking through to the retailer the first time, you will be asked to select a community to join – again, that’s us! It does take a few minutes to set up, and a few extra clicks before you shop, but we will receive a per-purchase donation from the retailer, so please do it – and it’s not just for Christmas, make it the new route for your online shopping at all times. Thank you.

WALK - Sunday 14th July 2013
Click here to see individual photos of the walk, which raised over £250 - thanks to all who gave so generously.

Sponsored Swim
In Autumn 2012,Maria raised £500 for us by asking 50 of her friends to pledge to pay £10 each if she swam 10 lengths in 10 days. This was a relatively simple way of raising funds (ok, not for Maria!), enabling us to sponsor the education of another child in Ladakh. Perhaps you could do something similar, helping us to raise funds and spread wider the awareness of Himalayan Children. If you would like our help in promoting your event, or need our logo for your event, just get in touch using the Contact form. Thank you Maria.
Offa's Dyke
Gail has walked the length of Offa's Dyke to raise funds - 100 miles over 5 days, phew! She has so far raised over £1,000, and thanks everyone for their generosity.

Tulip Time in Taunton
Rose once again opened her wonderful garden, on 22nd April. The event raised £440 - a big thank you to everyone who came and donated..
