Bracken Bashing
Control of bracken using Asulox is now only available under licence in Britain, therefore, bracken bashing using a horse drawn roller offers an alternative method which is also enviromentally friendly and non-weather dependent.
Bracken bashing works by flattening and crushing the stems of the bracken with a bladed roller. The roller is designed to only partially cut the stalk, sap continues to be produced by the plant which bleeds from the bruising and exhausts the plants feed store. The result the following season is a weakened stunted plant which with a further treatment can eradicate the bracken completely.

As well as long term bracken control an immediate effect is also obtained. Flattening and crushing the bracken and dead material encourages it to rot quicker, allowing light to reach the ground layer encouraging suppressed plants to grow.
Bracken bashing is carried out in summer months when the bracken is still growing and strong.
Bracken bashing is particulary useful in designated environmental areas where low impact control is required. Bracken bashing can encourage tree regeneration and benefit wild flowers. Bracken bashing is also useful for clearing bracken from agricultural land where it is becoming increasingly prevalent.
