PRS USA Standard 24 20TH ANNIVERSARY One like this will cost you a couple of grand used if you are lucky.
Built to commemorate 20 years of PRS Guitars in 2005, the PRS Standard 24 is wonderfully resonant. I bought mine in New York in 2006 when it was around 11 months old Sold for a large profit but should have kept it. More expensive now. |

Wechter Travel Guitar Wechter 1620 electro acoustic. This travel guitar was bought in the USA. Hand made by Abe Wechter of Paw-Paw Michigan, who has made for many artists formerly John Denver,Al Dimeola etc.
I think Abe has gone back to private luthier work, and cant see too many Wechters around.
So this is a rare little gem, with a wide neck, sold on to a guy in Glasgow after a year or two for his daughter. I hope she is still enjoying it. |

Wechter 1620 Travel Guitar A solid Engelman Spruce top with flamed dark maple back & sides. Double binding with rosewood fretboard and pinless bridge. Built with the arched one piece maple back, and the passive eq, this Maple Lake 1620 projects like a much larger guitar and especially so when plugged in. The headstock employs Wilkinson tuners and displays a beautiful mother of pearl inlay. Comes with a very nice leatherette back pack style thickly padded case with headstock restraint.
Like a number of other guitars, this went with me on my travels. |

Hagstrom Ultra Swede SWEDEN-BASED HAGSTROM STARTED MAKING ELECTRIC GUITARS IN 1958, and went on to produce a wide range of acoustic and electric models until it went out of business in 1983. The company started making guitars again in 2006, and it now offers an impressive series of models. My Ultra Swede is well made and it sports a fair amount of cosmetic appointments, including pearl celluloid binding on the body, neck, and headstock; abalone/pearl fretboard inlays; and a pearl logo on the headstock. Add the chrome tailpiece cover—which disguises six chrome-plated brass blocks that the strings load though—and the swanky “stair step†tuning machines, and you’ve got an instrument that definitely makes a bold visual statement
The neck has an inviting C shape and the polished frets feel great to bend on. They’ve also been carefully tapered on their ends to eliminate any prickliness as you slide you hand along the neck. This is an enticing guitar to play and though its controls are simple, the Ultra Swede delivers a surprising broad range of sounds. The coil-split switch really brightens up the response of both pickups, which can be cool for when you need some Strat-style neck pickup wail, or a crisp, shimmering rhythm tone with both pickups on. What’s also cool is that the Tone control is useable throughout its entire range—so you can use it to completely roll off the highs without it sounding like there’s a mattress over the speaker. The Volume control also keeps the highs intact when it’s turned down.
With the pickups in full humbucking more, the Ultra Swede delivers a throaty overdrive sound with just enough treble bite to maintain good presence in the mix. The output level of the Hagstrom units is on par with other PAF type pickups, and we had no problem getting juicy distortion tones from amps that weren’t even particularly high-gain. The Ultra Swede is a very flexible guitar that’s as adept at blues or jazz as it is for slammin’ out AC/DC riffs. So if you’re jonesing for a little upscale visual vibe in an affordable axe that packs a bunch of great sounds, the Ultra Swede could be just what you need. This guitar has awesome features: flame maple top, basswood body, thin, set maple neck with "resinator" fingerboard, abalone and pearl inlays, medium frets, pearlized binding around body neck and head. |

PRS SE Custom 24 Usually a manufacturer makes a cheaper version of his USA products in Korea or China to combat the demand of cheap copy brands.
Paul Reed Smith, as usual, has put his exacting standards into his Korean models, and the SE range aint hugely different from the genuine American guitars. The bang for the buck is amazing.
I have had/have a number of SE models, and would buy another! There is now a 25th anniversary SE model with the birds inlays, which I need to check out. |

G & L ASAT When he sold Fender, Leo set up just up the road with George Fullerton building BETTER guitars. ASAT is though to mean after Strat after telecaster. If ever I regretted selling on a guitar this was it. Swamp Ash body, superb Tele type guitar. |
|
PRS SE custom 24 24 fret guitar with maple top (quilted maple veneer), mahogany body, and two different PRS humbuckers.
PRS have built a reputation for fine guitars and they induce a fierce loyalty amongst those that own and play them. The SE is a perfect alternative for those who wont or cant stretch to a USA model. The USA is about £2600, the SE under £500. This guitar is eminently playable, beautiful to look and a joy to listen to. |
