Welcome to Wollaton Natural History Society

The Society exists to promote the study and appreciation of the natural world by arranging regular illustrated talks, guided walks, recording and publications.

The programme of indoor illustrated talks by guest speakers, takes place on the 3rd Wednesday of the month starting at 7.30pm at St Leonards Community Centre, Bramcote Lane, Wollaton. NG8 2ND (Opposite Wollaton library).

NEXT INDOOR MEETING:

Meetings are held inside St Leonards Community Hall.

19th June – The Pantanal - Max & Christine Maughan present a talk on their visit in August 2023 to the Pantanal region of Brazil. This is a natural region encompassing the world’s largest tropical wetland area, and the world’s largest flooded grasslands, covering more than 42 million acres. It is a refuge for iconic wildlife with approximately 4,700 plant and animal species.

                                      NEXT GUIDED WALK:

Sun 23rd June - 2pm. ‘Pewit Coronation Meadows NR’/ Straw’s Bridge/ Manor Floods, Ilkeston. Meet at 2pm at the former golf course car park on West End Drive, approx. postcode: DE7 5GH (w3w.co/crew.thank.school). Nigel Downes will lead a walk to see how the rewilding of the former Pewit golf course is progressing, looking for insects, wildflowers etc. Followed by - weather permitting - a garden party in Nigel & Penny’s wildlife garden in Ilkeston, to celebrate their house, ‘Holyrood’ 46 Wharncliffe Road, Ilkeston being 120 years old!

                                         Free for members, visitors £2.

        MEMBERSHIP: £16 annually, payable in January, join on the door.

 Pro rata after March. 

            VISITORS are always welcome: £3.00 per meeting, £2 for walks.

             At meetings there is a charge of £1 for refreshments during the break.
