Sky – Weimaraner.

Sky was a lovely bitch who gave us immense devotion from 1987 to 1997.

We had seen a Weimaraner dog owned by a golfing friend and had been impressed by the look and intelligence if the breed.

We found a litter in N Essex and initially purchased a boy and a girl from the litter.  Two puppies, six weeks old came to our home in Buckhurst Hill and played in the garden, were taken out in a bag so they could get used to traffic.
The boy was called Tobin and the bitch Sky.

My daughter Petra took both pups to a local dog trainer who was knowledgeable about Weimies.  He was sceptical about Tobins temperament and warned that he could be unpredictable as he grew up.

Both dogs trained well and were excellent at tracking, they did well in Weimaraner Club events.

However Tobin was very jealous of Sky and went for her when we fussed or praised her. Sadly due to his attitude we had to have him put down after about one year.  This was so sad as he was a brilliant tracker and otherwise a fine dog.

Sky from then on thrived and was a happy, lively very affectionate dog.  She got on with the cats that we had and coped with our move to the North in 1991 with no trouble.  Living in Essex on the edge of Epping Forest we had the chance to take long walks in the Forest.  She was good in the car and loved coming with us on family, caravan or business trips.

Due to  our membership of the Weimaraner Club Sky achieved a claim to fame.  The Club were asked to provide a pack of dogs for the BBC TV programme of the Narnia series.  Sky was invited and had to go to the TV Centre at White City to be fitted for a special collar.  She then went with Petra for TV filming in the Lake District with all the other dogs!

Our trips out in our caravan from 1995 to 1997 gave her a great time and she enjoyed rooting around in new areas.

In late 1996 she started to show strain at her rear end with hip problems and when the pain became too much for her we very sadly eased her burden.
We were left with a very empty house. It only took a week or so before we went to secure another dog. That was our good friend Summer.More of her on another page.
