17 March 2025VE DAY 80 - Thursday 8th May 2025
Join us in a shared moment of celebration.
On Thursday 8th May 2025, we mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day as our nation will unite to celebrate 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe.
VE Day is not only a tribute to those who fought and died for freedom but also a powerful reminder of the resilience and unity that have defined our country ever since.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
You are invited to meet at the colliery memorial at Bank Top (Evenwood) at 9:00 p.m. and to take part in a short lantern procession to the war memorial at Devonshire Place where Pastor Andrew Kay of Cornerstone Christian Centre will lead a brief service of remembrance.
Lamp Lights of Peace will be lit at 9:30 p.m. symbolising the enduring strength of our community. We will stand together in gratitude, honouring the sacrifices that secured our freedom.
The event concludes with participants reflecting on the significance of VE Day and paying their respects.
