Nature - knows…..
I posted the following on the Orkney Wildlife FB page …….
“1st of January 2025....
A confused Primrose, flowering in the verge...”
Which produced some interesting responses….
Sherry Kerr…
“Many flowers have becomes confused, the mildest Christmas Day in Orkney!”
Me…..
“There's also a Primula in the cut meadow - I didn't post that here as it's not 'wild'”.....
Liz Radley…..
“Interested to see this. I've had primroses in flower since November in Norfolk. That feels strange to me.”
Me…
“It IS strange - these are strange times we're living through!”
Richard Pelling….
“Started flowering for me down in Aberdeenshire on 18th Dec (previous earliest I've seen them was 26th Dec) ... now have a fair few in bloom along hedges.”
Some deny that Climate Change is happening.

Re. the Games – you have been warned!....
“Let the games begin!
2025 will be a special year for sport in Orkney with the arrival of the International Island Games in July. The biennial event will be held here for the very first time since its inception in 1985. The week-long games will begin on 12th July and will see athletes from 24 different islands around the world compete across 12 sports. The games are a real celebration of island communities and culture, with a legacy lasting far longer than the sports themselves. Find out more on the official Orkney 2025 website.
A year in images
The beginning of any New Year is about looking ahead to what the next 12 months will bring. But it’s important not to forget all that has passed too. As usual, last month we selected our favourite Orkney images of 2024, featuring everything from a snow-covered St Magnus Cathedral, to stunning summer light on the west coast of the islands. Join us for a quick look back at the year just gone.
