Ant Care

How to care for your ants once they have arrived

Arrival of Your Ants
Store the test tube that your queen ant is contained in within a dark place, away from sunlight. Keep it at room temperature.
Keep the test tube moist with a damp piece of cotton wool inside, making sure to change it every 2-3 days.
The test tube should be sufficient enough for the queen until she has her first few workers.

Feeding Your Ants
You can give your ants honey water, which you can easily purchase form our site and placing a small drop into the test tube.
You may also feed them small dead insects that can be crushed up such as flies and crickets etc this is good as the eggs and larve need the protein to grow.
Be sure to feed your ants every 2-3 days and remove any uneaten remains

Hibernation
Your ants will need to hibernate from late October/November to late February/April. Keep them stored in a cold place but DO NOT put them into the freezer. This will help maximise your queens life expectancy and egg laying yield.
Feel free to give them a drop of honey water during hibernation but DO NOT give them more than that.
(Be sure to keep the colony supplied with water)
When you start to notice ants in your garden or on the street, take your ants out of hibernation and store them in the last place you had them before they were put into hibernation.
