Andrea’s father’s artwork
As a personal friend of Andrea’s, it’s been a great delight to see the effort she has put in to accumulate her fathers works and present them in such a professional way. A credit to her parents.

Mr Selbie was my old art teacher
I took higher art in 6th year at the Academy in 1975. Your dad was an inspirational teacher - I can still hear him lecture about “Raaaphael” and he gave me a life long love of Giotto
I returned to Art aged 58 and am now at Glasgow School of Art in 3rd year Painting and Printmaking. I also in 2019 had a weeks exhibition in the old Boys Gym at the Midmills Building and got to see round the old art classrooms - he’s still there !!!
Would love to find the Arandora Star mosaic
Great website

Connections...
Hello - really enjoyed browsing the site to learn more about this talented and generous artist. Until recently, I had never heard of his name but I arrived here via an interest in the Arandora Star. I then find images of Barga where my cousin lives and where I spent many happy summers with my children when they were young. Perhaps our paths crossed as we strolled along the cobbled streets of the old town. I certainly remember seeing John Bellany on several occasions. Ciao per ora.

My Grandfather was a lifelong friend of Andrea's father
As a child I remember seeing a beautiful oil painting in my Grandparents' house in Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds. After they both passed away, my Mother inherited the painting and had it hanging on one of her walls. Sadly she too passed away and upon clearing her house, my Husband and I began discussing the painting and we thought it was such a lovely piece that we should try and find out about the artist. We found the name 'Selbie' on the picture and a google search brought up Andrea's website and we got in touch with her to see if the painting we had was one of her Father's pieces. Andrea confirmed it was, and we began talking via email. We discovered that my Grandad was actually a very close, lifelong friend of her Father, they had gone to the same school in Aberdeen, and continued to keep in touch and visit each other until the death of Andrea's Father. I knew my Grandfather was Scottish, but I had no idea of the connection!
Andrea remembered my Grandparents visiting her parents in Scotland, and she even remembered playing with my Mum, she has very kindly offered to show me some cine footage of my Grandad taken in the 1960's!
The power of the internet!
Without Andrea's website, we would never have known the story behind this beautiful picture, and we are absolutely over the moon that we found out a little more about our family history. Thank you Andrea!

Thanks for your comment Charlotte. This whole "encounter", thanks to the power of the internet is amazing and has rekindled many good memories of your grandfather, who was a special friend of my dad.
