Information for customers having a partial or total electrical re-wire
This information is about what is involved in having a partial or full rewire and how you can prepare your property in order to limit the disruption caused;
The electrician will need to run cables from the consumer unit to every socket, switch, and light fitting specified in the rewire.
This will involve channelling the walls, lifting floorboards, accessing loft spaces and running cables across loft spaces.
It is important that your belongings are moved to allow access and to ensure that they are not damaged.
If it is not possible to carry out the work without moving your furniture or possessions this will take more time.
The dust and debris from chopping out the walls is very abrasive and can scratch or damage items. The electrician will use dust sheets in the immediate area however you are advised to cover or pack away any items that may be affected.
During the work it will be necessary at some time to turn off the electricity supply to the property, this will be kept to a minimum however there may be occasions when the property will be left over night with only minimal power available i.e. selected sockets and lights. The electrician will inform you of when this will happen.
The electrician will dispose of any rubble caused by the chopping out.
Unless otherwise stated the channels will be covered in a rough plaster finish which will require further preparation before decorating.
