About Us
The Hall Street Allotment site is comprised of 43 individual plots and the land is now owned by Seaham Town Council.
The Hall Street Allotment Association was formed by the plotholders in 1995 to take over the day to day running of the site from Seaham Town Council.
The Association is a member of the National Society of Allotment & Leisure Gardeners Limited (membership number S3106A)
The objectives of the Association are:
- To encourage the development of horticulture and recreational activity within the area of benefit as a means of improving health, increasing self-confidence and reducing social isolation.
- To provide a supportive environment with a range of activities in which to foster goodwill and community spirit and to work with others to advance the education of members.
- To co-operate with other voluntary and statutory agencies in the furtherance of our objectives.
Membership of the Association is open to all people of any race, sex or creed who support the objects of the Association upon payment of an annual membership fee.
We have a diverse membership of all professions, physical abilities and gardening experience, we have first time gardeners, old hands with traditional methods and members experimenting with Hydroponics as a growing medium.
Our membership now stands at 85 and of late we are finding more women have joined the Association and presently 20% of our members are female. Also women applicants now account for 30% of our waiting list, long may this continue.
We hope in the future to enhance our site with the incorporation of new pathways and a clubhouse to enable our disabled members access to the site all year round.
As you can see in our Links page we encourage members to look also at activities other than gardening to help them recuperate from illness, disability and to help them have a more enjoyable and fulfilling retirement.
