About Our School

Tain Royal Academy is a non-denominational secondary school which serves the town of Tain and a wide geographical area. Pupils join us from our associated primary schools: Gledfield, Edderton, Craighill, Knockbreck, Inver, Tarbat Old, Hilton of Cadboll and Hill of Fearn. We also work very closely with St Duthus Special School, Tain.

We offer the Broad General Education in S1-3 and provide a wide variety of National, Higher and Advanced Higher courses in the Senior Phase. We have good links with our community and with local Further and Higher Education providers. Our roll is currently 480, with around 80 new S1 pupils joining us each year. Our pupils enter S1 after a  number of transition visits from their primary school. A large number of our pupils travel to school by bus.  We have an excellent dining room serving snacks at morning interval and a variety of main meal options at lunch time. There is a large range of clubs and activities on offer. We arrange many sports and music activities along with a number of educational visits in  this country and abroad. Our school has a special link with Ekwendeni Community Day Secondary School in Malawi, and our pupils have benefitted from exchange visits. Our traditional music group Gizzen Briggs are highly acclaimed and perform at  a very high standard.
