I worked for several years for the National Trust, based at Penrhyn Castle, where I was committed to sharing the history of the property, including its links to Atlantic slavery.
In 2007, I was successful in securing Heritage Lottery funding for an exhibition to present this story. This was part of a year-long commemoration promoted by the government for the bicentenary of the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade. The exhibition is now closed.
After leaving the Trust, I completed a doctorate which explores the challenges faced by heritage organisations in acknowledging their assets and artefacts connected to colonial atrocity.
