Message BoardWelcome to the SLRC Message Board. If you want to team up for transport, let others know about a training night or day out...or just want to explain why you ran so badly in your last event - here's the place to do it. Many members are also taking advantage of Facebook to meet up for runs etc so, if you have access, why not check us out there too?
GB Relay 2015 Dear Runner, I am the secretary to the Banchory Running Club and one of the ambassadors to the Great British Relay, about which I now write. I’m helping to spread the word to all runners who might like to get involved and possibly earn a place in the Guinness World Record Book. (Longest in duration running event world record) The relay itself goes around the whole of mainland UK in the 31 days from June 1 to July 2, covering a distance of over 7000km in 594 separate stages of between 10 and 30km. Runners form themselves into teams which run each stage at the appointed time at a fairly easy average pace of 6 minutes per km or 9min 40sec per mile. The individual stages are not difficult and can be managed by runners of almost any ability, as the baton can be passed between team members who don’t all have to finish. Stages that complete in a longer time are no problem for later stages to make the time up. In fact last year our main problem was to hold the teams back as in their excitement many just wanted to run ahead. Yes, some did take longer than the allotted time and that was easily corrected in the following stages. Last year’s event was loved by everybody who participated, as it’s really quite special to be part of something so big. It’s quite easy to choose a stage online and to enter. The website is at www.gbrelay.com where stages can be claimed at £25 each, no matter how many runners are in the team. Just enjoy your running, because you can. Yours in running, Jack Honey Posted by Jack Honey on 04 May 2015 Hello I am interested in coming along to running club, can you tell me please what nights you go out over the winter.?
