Our recommendations for good local walks:
From the door/local;
The easiest walk is down to the beck, about 500 metres North of the Barn; or along the same bridleway to our gate and turbine. En route, views of Blencathra/Skiddaw, Nine Standards and The Whin Sill are all around - and we've now installed picnic tables and benches, to allow you to take in the view in comfort! Good local weather forecast here.
- Hannah's Meadow, Balderdale - through the North Pennines AONB, a UNESCO Geopark. Watch out for Shackleborough en route, a spectacular oddity, and AONB Hay Time projects.
- Rey Cross Roman Marching camp
- Maiden castle
- Tan Hill
Around Kirkby Stephen/the Mallerstang;
Eden Valley
- High Cup Nick and High Cup Gill - spectacular views down the Gill to the Eden Valley, with the edges of Whin Sill visible, as pictured above from the back door of Sanctuary Barn.
Teesdale
- Bowlees Visitor centre and High Force, Teesdale
