The Highland 2010by Unknown - 08:44 on 19 August 2010
On the Saturday before the Highland we saw the play off of the Club Championship between Tom McLevy and Murray Gollan. After 5 rounds of golf only 1 shot separated these two talented golfers, with Tom just edging it. Congratulations to both for exhibiting some fine golf.
The Highland started on Sunday 8th August. The weather was fantastic for the initial George Hogg / John Rutherford competitions. However Mon and Tues saw a deterioration with rain which at one point threatened play. The course stood up to the test extremely well, with Stephen Carruthers demonstrating an excellent Squeegee technique on the flooded 11th .Some of home players recording excellent wins over low handicap opponents within a field of 152 golfers.. The final was contested between Alex Mair and Tom McLevy, with Alex exhibiting an exquisite short game to narrowly win.
The Club as whole owes thanks to the Highland team who worked really hard to make the competition the success it was. Special thanks to Mike Winton for his role as Tournament Secretary . The catering team did exceptionally well and were rewarded with a busy week. Messrs McIntosh and McAulay set a new clubhouse record for Miller consumption with an average 39 bottles per golf round played
