- Crisp bags are made from foil - can they be added to the Hessian Bag with foil marked on it?
NO - these should be put in the black sack/wheelie bin because they are contaminated with food.
- How about other foil which has been used to wrap food?
This should be cleaned first before adding to the Hessian Bag.
In fact all plastic items that have been in contact food should be washed before they are put in the bag. This also avoids foul smells and helps to keep the Hessian Bag clean.
- Aerosols were once pressurised containers - can they be put in the Hessian Bag with cans?
Aerosol containers should be empty before they are placed in the Hessian Bag marked TINS.
- Egg shells and used tea bags - where do I put them.
Both these items can be put in your small kitchen food bin. When full, the contents of the small bin in its wrapping bag is then transferred to the larger GREEN food bin.
- Card food wrapping, like the outer covering of frozen foods - where do they go?
In the HESSIAN BAG marked cardboard and cartons. Card food containers can also be put in this bag after they have been rinsed out
- Tins and their lids - where do they go?
In the same Hessian Bag as the plastic items. Remember to rinse out food tins before putting them in the bag.
- Glass, bottles and jars - where do they go?
In the PLASTIC BOX. Metal caps and corks should be removed first.
- Newspapers, envelopes and paper items - where do they go?
In the PLASTIC BOX with a lid. Placed shredded paper in first and the paper on top of that. Don't worry about the plastic windows on some envelopes - just put them in. For security, remove your name and address from envelopes and shred them or tear them up.
