Ali Turner

Ali Turner, Neusa's guitar player, is also a piper. Originally from Ross-Shire in the Highlands of Scotland, he is now living in Glasgow, via Benbecula.

Ali's interest in music was initially sparked by classes organised by Fèis Rois; Fiddle with Alpha Munro and then Guitar with Mike Simpson and Dagger Gordon. He learnt Piping through Highland Council's Schools Music Tuition with Niall Matheson.

After Highers, Ali studied Music at Benbecula College, gaining a HNC in Music.  He is now studying for the B.A. (Hons) in Applied Music (BAAM) at the University of Strathclyde and is tutored on guitar by Anna Massie and on pipes by Roddy MacLeod.

Since moving to Glasgow, Ali has joined the Grade 1 Pipe Band. Torphican and Bathgate and enjoys sessioning on guitar at many of Glasgow’s music venues.

Ali has played with, amongst others, Kathleen MacInnes, Iain MacDonald, Anna-Wendy Stevenson, Robert Watt and Charlie McKerron and has appeared on BBC Alba in the itrad series.
