Introduction

We present a compilation compiled from internet sources for an understanding of diabetes and related problems.

Basically, diabetes is the inability of the body to control blood sugar levels, something that is done automatically by a normal person.

Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person's blood sugar level to become too high. There are 2 main types of diabetes: type 1 diabetes – where the body's immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin and type 2 where there is a failure of the system, often caused by being overweight.

With the right control, a person can lead a normal life, as shown on this website.

We explain about TYPE 1 and TYPE 2 and the fact that many are not aware of the latter for many years before they are diagnosed, so we therefore reveal the symptoms to look out for.

The treatment for TYPE 1 diabetes is by insulin injections.

The treatment for TYPE 2 diabetes is by tablets and diet control in most cases.

The history of diabetes started in approximately 1550BC, long before the mechanics of the disease were understood. Over time diabetes has since become classified as different types and treatments have evolved so people can live for longer and reduce the risk of long-term health complications developing. See the menu for more about the history of diabetes.

Theresa May - a role model for many diabetics

Theresa Mary May (born 1 October 1956) is a British politician serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom since 2016. She was Home Secretary from 2010 to 2016 and Leader of the Conservative Party from 2016 until 2019.

Theresa May was first elected to be the Member of Parliament (MP) for Maidenhead in 1997. Ideologically, she identifies herself as a one-nation conservative.

In our menu she speaks out about living with type 1 diabetes.
