Welcome to my website
The purpose of this website is to share my work in action research. I am a researcher living and working in South Africa, at North-West University in Potchefstroom. I head up a research entity called Community-based Educational Research (COMBER).
COMBER is research focused not only on generating theoretical knowledge about the issue, but also on bringing about change on personal, institutional and community levels. As such, we can call it research as social change as the process has educational, political and emancipatory intent.
Community-based educational research is defined as:
Action research that allows us to do research with people, not on them. The community informs the actions. It is crucial for us to listen to community and give them the opportunity to explain the problem and say what they think the solution should be. This enables learning and development on various levels, including learning to communicate effectively, to improve their self-esteem and confidence and ability to collaborate with others to creative ways to enhance their own lives. It is a holistic process of learning and development.
Have you ever wondered what the difference between PAR and PALAR is?
How to choose the correct paradigm for your study?
How to guide a student towards constructing good AR research questions?
