Head First Charity Registration No. 1002930
Story On 19th October 2012 whilst on holiday on Koh Samui in Thailand, I received the devastating news that my beautiful, kind, loving Mum had suffered a stroke and was unlikely to regain consciousness. I was told that if she did manage to recover she would be severly brain damaged and the best outcome for her would be not to wake up. Dave and I flew out of Thailand on the next plane but sadly she died on Saturday 20th October whilst we were still desperately trying to get home. I never got the chance to say goodbye. The last time I saw her was two weeks earlier. We had gone for lunch and everything had seemed fine. But now looking back, we can see that it wasn't. Mum was suffering headaches... and not feeling as good as normal. She put her symptoms down to her MS but if we had recognised the signs, we may have been able to save her. The York Marathon is on the same day to the year that Mum died and so I will be running it in her memory and to raise money for Head First - a charity that researches the prevention of stroke and brain damage. Running a marathon wouldn't have been too difficult in itself but unfortunately I have had a recurring injury over the last 2 years. In April the injury returned and got progressively worse as I desperately tried to find the cause. I have some orthotics now but these have not been without difficulty and the problem is still niggling in the background. They also give me massive blisters on the soles of my feet - it's costing me at least a fiver in tape and Compeed every time I run! This meant that training only started 6 weeks ago, I have somehow got up to 14 miles but I don't know whether my foot will hold out for the whole distance but here's to hoping!! If you would like to help, then please: Look at the photos I've uploaded about strokes - maybe it can help someone in your family one day. Support me on the day - I most probably will be bawling my eyes out!! Don't take photos of me bawling my eyes out on the day Give some money to Head First Kirstyxxx
