The children all came to live with us here in Kings Kids because they either had no parents to look after them and were begging and stealing on the street, or they came from very poor families who could not care for them or send them to school. Some of the kids have very sad, abusive backgrounds, each child has their own individual story to tell.

Joy, Bea, Memey and Abi

Herman: 21, from Jakarta. Parents divorced when he was 6. He went to  live with an older brother for a year then ran away and lived on the streets for a couple of years till he came into contact with Kings Kids. He has lost all contact with his family and has little recollection of them.

Agus (17), Nina (18), Sugik (16): Siblings from  Surabaya, formerly  street kids  from a broken home. Their family were unable to support and school them so they were sent out to beg and lived in a shack at the side of a dirty river with some family members.

Abi: 2 years old from Surabaya.  Her mother abandoned her at birth, giving  her to the midwife as payment for her services. No other information is known about her family. Abi arrived at Kings Kids at just 5 days old with nothing, not even a spare nappy.
