Level 3 First Aid at Work (3 days)
Description
It is a requirement of the Health & Safety law that employers should provide a safe and healthy environment for their employees. If the assessment of First Aid needs highlights the need for qualified First Aider’s, then this Level3 qualification (Level 6 in Scotland) will provide you with suitable, highly trained personnel. This comprehensive three-day course covers a wide range of First Aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with an emergency situation with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way. This course will give the participants a qualification to the highest level.
Duration
A minimum of 18 hours spread over at least three days. Ideally, the course should be run over three consecutive days, but we have the flexibility to accommodate your specific needs if you so desire providing it is completed within 10 weeks of starting the course.
Syllabus
A range of subjects is covered including:
• Legalities, responsibilities and reporting • Assessment of the situation • Resuscitation
• Dealing with an unresponsive casualty • Shock (including Anaphylaxis) • Bandaging
• Fractures and spinal injuries • Heart attacks • Choking • Control of bleeding • Head injuries • Eye injuries
• Poisoning • Chest injuries • Sprains and strains • Burns • Asthma • Diabetes • Epilepsy • Stroke
Level 3 First Aid at work Refresher (2 days)
Description
This two-day course is designed to enable existing first aiders to extend their qualification in line with the Regulations for a further three years. The course may be taken within three months of the first aider’s certificate expiry date but must be taken within 28 days of the expiry date. The course covers a wide range of first aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with emergency situations with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way. In addition, this course will include any protocol changes that may have arisen since their last training course.
Duration
A minimum of 12 hours spread over at least two days. Ideally, the course should be run over two consecutive days, but we have the flexibility to accommodate your specific needs if you so desire providing it is completed within 6 weeks of starting the course and the training sessions last for a minimum of two hours.

Level 2 Emergency First Aid at Work (1 day)
DESCRIPTION
Where an organisation’s risk assessment of First Aid needs identifies that there is a requirement for Emergency First Aid at Work practitioners, then this Award for Emergency First Aid at Work satisfies the requirements of the regulatory body for First Aid - the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and HSENI (Northern Ireland).
All learners will have the skills and knowledge to provide the organisation with Emergency First Aider’s that can provide treatment to their casualties in a prompt, safe and effective manner.
DURATION
A minimum of six contact hours in the classroom, consisting of practical and theoretical activities, plus some pre-course activity could be required.
SYLLABUS

• What is Emergency First Aid? • Legislation • Responsibilities • Action in an emergency • Primary survey • Secondary assessment
• The respiratory system • Resuscitation • Disorders of respiration • Adult basic life support • Foreign objects • Disorders of the circulation
• Minor burns and scalds • Epilepsy • Wounds and bleeding
Level 2 AED (Defibrillation) and CPR (1 day)
Description
Heart and circulatory disease claims around 200,000 lives each year. Many could have been saved if a defi brillator was made available. Automated External Defi brillators (AED’s) are now becoming more common throughout a range of public and work places. A casualty’s survival rate will dramatically increase if an AED is available and if you have appropriately qualified personnel to use it. This very practical course will enable your learners to use the AED competently and with confi dence. Not only does this course deal with the use of an AED but it also includes vital training in resuscitation and choking procedures.
Duration
A minimum of six contact hours in the classroom, consisting of practical and theoretical activities.
