WHY DID the Royal house of Stuart, which had for centuries persecuted the Gaelic Highland community, now turn to it in their power struggle with the usurping Hanoverian dynasty? This tour gets to the heart of the matter, providing a clear understanding of the roots of the conflicts and the motivation of the clans which rose in successive rebellion in 1689, 1715, 1719 and finally, 1745.
We will visit sites of spectacular victories, such as Prestonpans and Falkirk as well as the ultimate defeat and butchery on the field of Culloden. You will be able to place in context the exploits of Rob Roy MacGregor and visit the locations such as Inversnaid, Craigroyston and Balquhidder associated with his territory.
The story will be told from the perspective of the Highland Gael through the rich store of music, poetry and song that remains in the repertoire of the Gaelic singers to this day.
