Upcoming Events!

A number of exciting features lie ahead. With the assistance and design by Finola Moore, the Committee have agreed to get a non-brand tee shirt & hoodie for Athletes to wear when warning up or post event. The can also be purchased by Irish Supporters. At present, through the assistance of AAI, NB singlet & shorts are provided to Athletes when competing in International Champs. but we feel that the tee shirt/hoodie will now compliment this. Orders need to be in place by 28th June for those who would like to have for travelling to Lyon. Payment can be made online. At present, based on an order of 40, tee shirt (Technical issue) will cost €12.55 plus postage. Please see

www.customking.ie/imaaclothing/

It would be greatly appreciated if this initiative could be supported. Also through the great assistance of Tim Shiels, we are hoping to re launch the website beginning of July. This will offer us greater opportunities to keep all updated and provide a more vibrant site. Recently sent out email to those travelling to World Masters T & F Champs in Lyon. If this was not received by you, please text your email address to the number below and I will resend. It is imperative that those who are travelling for the first time & require singlet & Shorts respond by 30th June, so orders can be forwarded to AAI. Online entries are now open for Glohealth AAI Masters T & F Champs which will take place in Tullamore, Sunday 26th July. Please see www.athleticsireland.ie for further details. Entries will close on 17th July, absolutely no entries on the day.

European non- Stadia Championships - outstanding performances!

Tremendous performances were achieved by the small party of 10 Athletes, who travelled out to the non Stadia Champs. held in Grosseto, Italy last weekend, returning home with a very impressive haul of 3 Ind. Gold, 3 Ind. Silver & 3 Team Bronze.
Pride of place to Mick Traynor M50 who was not daunted by the humid conditions for the 10K finishing 2nd overall behind Gerry Ryan, before anchoring the relay Team to bronze on Sat and then took Ind. Gold over the ½ marathon on Sunday, crushing the local Italian, despite temperatures rising to 35c by race end. Also to Pat O’Shea M65, who matched Mick in the Ind. stakes with Gold over the ½ marathon & silver in the 10k. Paul Elliott M60 completed the Ind. medal haul with silver and led Team comprising of Pat O’Shea & Michael Bowler, (both M65s), to Team Bronze in the M60 category.

Michael Cornyn & Mick Fennell had a battle throughout the 10k, each passing the other on a number of occasions, before Mick Fennell finally prevailed with a few seconds to spare. They then combined with Mick Traynor on the CC relay Team to capture Team Bronze.
Good performances also from Stuart Kennedy, M45 & Pat Bonass M70in the 10k. Team of Stuart, plus Paul Elliott & Pat O’Shea, both having to drop down to the younger age group to make up a team, just missed out by 9 seconds for M45 CC relay. The ½ marathon Team were also denied Bronze, finishing a very creditable 4th overall.

Sean McMullin M65, was our sole representative in the walks, performing well in the 10k but was one of the many causalities who was forced to withdraw in the 30k, as the temperatures took it’s toll in the mid afternoon sunshine on the Sunday.
With the re alignment of Champs. by the European & World Masters, the non Stadia will take place again in 2016 from the 20th -22nd May in Monte Gordo, Portugal. This is an event where Irish Teams can perform exceptionally well, so hopefully Athletes will give consideration to this Championship next year.
World Masters T & F Champs scheduled for 4th – 16th Aug in Lyon, France will close on 2ndJune 2015. Please see www.lyon2015.com for online entries plus further information. It’s unlikely that this date will be extended, so please get your entry in. Would also suggest that those entering in the sprint & middle/long distance events, consider if can make themselves available for age appropriate Teams in the relays or CC.

Please note that for the International Secretary to confirm an entry into the World Masters' Championships, you must be a paid up member of the Irish Master Athletes Association.

National Masters Indoor  Championships Sunday 15 March 2015

A big thank you to all the Officials from AAI, Volunteers & Staff who got through a comprehensive days competition at the AAI Masters Glohealth Indoor Champs in Athlone on Sunday 15th March. With a record entry of almost 400, Templemore A.C. closed the day’s event with a fine victory in the 4 x 200m relay shortly after 7.30pm. Interspersed we had many keenly contested events ranging from the younger age groups right through to the evergreen Hugh Gallagher of Milford A.C. competing in the M90 category. Full results are now available on the AAI website, www.athleticsireland.ie;

A full review will also be carried out by Killian Lonergan (Records Secretary) and records will be updated on the site as soon as possible, so no need for Athletes to furnish details from this Championship. However, we would call on Athletes to forward results, if have competed in other Indoor events, and  their performances surpass those currently on record. These need to be supported by way of sigh off by the Event Referees, etc

The Tadgh Lynch Trophy was also presented to Pat Naughton, Nenagh Olympic in recognition of his contribution to Masters Athletic’s.

We wish every success to the travelling party of 47 Athletes who will compete in the forthcoming European Masters Indoor Champs, which will commence in Turon, Poland on Monday 23rd through to Sunday 29th March. For further information & daily results, please see www.evacitorun2015.com

Team Members need to confirm! 12th November 2014

Final preparations now in place for those travelling to the British & Irish Masters CC Champs, scheduled for Sat. 22nd Nov. in Nottingham. Men’s Teams remain same as originally selected, but a few changes to the Women’s Teams have occurred. Please see below for current Team listings.

A small number of Athletes have still not furnished payment for function tickets. Please note that these have to be pre ordered and paid for in advance, unless arrangement already made. Numbers are restricted and cannot guarantee that can request further tickets once we arrive over in Nottingham.

AAI have advised us that singlet & shorts will not be available for collection until Monday 17th Nov. Anyone in a position to pick up these from me between Tues to Thursday next, from Dublin City Centre, please advise by text to 087 950 2009 and I will make arrangements. With 76 Athletes travelling out, we are trying to disperse as much of the singlet & shorts, to Athletes, as possible.  Those not in a position to collect, then we will hand out in Team Hotel Friday evening from 7pm and Saturday morning.

AAI Master Athlete of the year will be presented at the AAI Banquet Awards on Wednesday 26th Nov. in the Crowne Plaza, Santry. The IMAA have nominated the following Athletes, Joe Gough, Brian Lynch, John Mac Dermott & Ann Woodlock. Please see www.athleticsireland.ie for further information. Nominations are also now sought for the Tadgh Lynch Award, which is made by the IMAA in recognition of an Athletes contribution to Masters Athletics. A small number of athletes need to confirm!
A small number of Athletes have still to confirm their participation for the forthcoming British & Irish Masters CC Champs in Nottingham on Sat 22nd Nov. It is imperative that you advise Team Managers, without further delay so we can contact Reserves, where necessary. We also have to furnish a full list to AAI of singlet and shorts requirements, this needs to be done early next week.
Advised also by our recommended hotel, Jury’s Inn, that our allocation of 45 rooms is almost complete and may not be in a position to provide more or at the special agreed rate.
Finally, it is also important that post race function tickets are reserved and paid for in advance. Once again, a few have confirmed their participation, but have not indicated if they will be attending the banquet.
Further updates will be provided on the website.
