The Invergordon Junior Football Club is a locally run voluntary organisation. We have charitable status, are members of the Ross and Cromarty Sports Council, and we operate a Child Protection policy.
About 12 to 15 adult coaches and committee members run the Club. The Club’s purpose is to encourage our local youth to participate in sport. We provide football coaching, tournaments, and league and friendly matches, for young boys and girls in Invergordon and the surrounding area from the age of 5 to 18, throughout the whole year. We usually have an annual membership of around 120 to 150 children. To gain recognised SFA coaching qualifications, the Club pays for our voluntary coaches to go attend the required courses. At training sessions they work on fitness, stamina and ball skills to a very high standard. From the age of 7 to 11 the children play in The Ross & Cromarty Soccer 7s Development Tournaments which promote participation and fair play, so that when the children reach the age of 12 and over, they are ready to play in Youth Leagues and are able to compete and play fairly and sportingly against teams from all over the North of Scotland. The down side of this is the cost involved, especially for transport. On average the club spends around £2,500 per year on busses to take the teams to away games. We also pay for rents, insurances, referees, providing and maintaining equipment, and supplying hospitality to visiting teams, etc. We have no official address. Most of our equipment is kept in a little hut, in the Recreation Grounds, Invergordon. The hut, which is over 100 years old, is in a bad state of disrepair. We also have a small area of storage in the Invergordon Football Club changing rooms. Over the winter months, our training sessions are held indoors, at the school gymnasiums of Park Primary School, and The Academy, both Invergordon. Our home matches are played at the Recreation Grounds, using of the Invergordon Football Club changing rooms when they are not in use by the seniors. We use The Academy gym and changing rooms for extra changing facilities when we hold tournaments. We try to fund raise as often as possible by holding dances, raffles, an ongoing 50-50 club, and bag packing at the local supermarket. What we raise is used up very quickly, so we rely a lot on donations and sponsorship. Without such, the club would be unable to function as we would like, and many of the children would miss out. That is not something we would like to see happen, especially as part of Invergordon is classed as within the 5 to 10% most deprived areas in Scotland (Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation, SIMD 2006). It is very welcoming that schools, businesses, community groups, and other organisations within our area support local children’s football. As our Club is run on a voluntary basis, every penny of any donation is used directly to enable our young footballers the opportunity to participate in these sporting events.
