Welcome to Howden Allotments Association official web site!

The Howden Allotments were first established on their current site in 1921.  Currently we are researching the history in more detail and, once more factual and chronological information is known, we shall publish here.

The Allotments comprise full and half units; a full unit is approximately 440 sq. yds while the half version is 220 sq.yds.  Some holders have double plots historically, some one and a half and some still have the equivalent of a full plot but the majority of tenants work a half plot.  Half plots are now issued as more the norm to make the facility available to more tenants.

The aim of the Association is to ensure the land use is maximised, with plots fully tenanted, and this activity is managed by the Management Committee who took over the running of the Allotments from the Town Council in January 2013.  A waiting list is published and is determined on a first in/first on basis.  This and other issues relating to plot allocation can be seen in the section headed Plots & Availibility.  Other vital information can be seen in the section headed Tenancy & Lease Agreement.

PLEASE NOTE: THE ALLOTMENTS IN HOWDEN ARE ONLY AVAILABLE FOR HOWDEN RESIDENTS.

Updating Allotment Holders

Allotment holders can be updated with information relative to the allotments through e-mail, this website or the noticeboards situated near to the main entrance.  These have recently been refurbished (see above) and enlarged so more information can be displayed.  Thanks to Monty Lowther and Shane Tipping for erecting the boards, Mike Lawson for enhancing the area with hanging baskets etc., but special thanks to the team at MKM Goole branch for kindly donating the materials for the new boards.  Their generosity is very much appreciated.

Discounted Products

Not all allotment holders may be aware that they can purchase discounted products from California Gardens.  These include items such as potting composts, general composts, slug pellets etc., but the listed items do change from season-to-season.  A level of subsidy on some of the items is also give by the Association.

This is managed by Dave Powell (plot 26) who will post the list of products and prices on the noticeboard and this web site early in the New Year.  If you wish to purchase items you must see Dave, who will take your orders and monies, and all you need is to take the receipt he gives you to California Gardens and collect the goods!

This years list for 2019 is now on the allotment noticeboard and shown below
