Posted by Hannah on 23 June 2014 self sufficient project Hi, i am looking for like minded people who would be interested in acquiring some land together, and utilizing it to make our lives more sustainable and self sufficient, by growing veg, fruit and nut trees, having chickens for eggs, and some horses. We live in Okehampton and would not want to travel too far; this project can start very small, but may grow, grow,... ;) Posted by frank on 19 November 2012 Hi Frank, Many thanks for your post about seeking land for a growing project in Okehampton. In case you aren't already aware I just wanted to let you know that there is a fantastic new community garden in Okehampton (just off Fatherford Lane) that HogCO is supporting. They have signed a lease with Okehampton United Charities for 3 acres of land. They have started growing some fruit and vegetables this year (although obviously the weather hasn't been too favourable to them) but they hope to get some covered growing areas, community composting, fruit and nut trees, wildlife areas and maybe chickens in the future. They are very keen for more people to get involved and help shape the project. If you are interested in finding out more, and how to get involved, please email the community garden secretary, John Bickley, on john@upcotthouse.com or contact HogCO. I would like to keep these ponies in a natural way, the less farmed grassland the better!
