Lest We Forget .......
This website is part of a project by the villages of Hinton Parva and Bishopstone in Wiltshire to research and commemorate those village residents who fought in the Great War of 1914 - 18.
We started with the names of sixteen men who did not survive, but were keen to identify those from our villages who served and returned, often scarred by their experiences. All deserve to be remembered.
Our research has led us to increase the total number of men with parish connections who died in the course of the war to twenty-six. We have also identified at least ninety other men who survived.
We have produced a detailed publication to commemorate these men and outline the impact of the Great War on life in our villages. Extensively illustrated, the publication covers (amongst other things):
- life in the villages in the lead-up to hostilities
- profiles of individuals who served in the military during WW1
- their regimental experiences
- life on the Home Front
- 1920 and beyond
Please use the tabs on the left for more information about the publication, and the names of the men we are researching.
If you have any additional information, photos or artifacts to contribute, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please email us at: hintonWW1@yahoo.co.uk
