My experience in the tourist industry in Orkney spans many years and varies from dealing with accommodation to general information and now Tourist Guiding. I have guided at the Highland Park Distillery from where I moved onto working for Historic Scotland at Maeshowe. I am still a volunteer guide with The World Heritage Site Ranger Service guiding in the Heart of Neolithic Orkney, through this service I had training from Jane Malcolm-Davis who trains guides at Buckingham Palace, Hampton Court Palace,The Palace of Hollyrood House and many more places.
In 2008 I qualified as an accredited Orkney Tourist Guide to Scottish Tourist Guide Association standards and now guide all over Orkney. From Neolithic sites, Vikings, Picts, Arts and Crafts and many more.
I always look out for new sites and anything I think may interest our visitors and later in 2012 I will be introducing Night Sky tours, a chance to see the dark skies over Orkney lit with stars and the Aurora Borealis clear skies permitting. The Aurora is a regular site over Orkney during the winter months. |
