MOUNTAIN BIKING

MOUNTAIN BIKING IN THE DOUGLAS VALLEY

There is plenty to offer for the keen mountain biker in the Douglas area , from forest trails to hardened access roads. There is plenty to explore.
The local windfarm offers great access to the top of the Hagshaw Hills (1100ft),along with great views the wind turbines are also quite impressive up close.
The grounds of Douglas and Angus Estates offers more gentle routes suited to families and beginners. The estate offers lovely scenery and lakes that are full of wildlife. An old railway line runs from Glespin to Poneil through Douglas Community Woodland and offers access to Long Plantation ,Windrow Glen etc.
The Mountain Drive can be accessed from Springhill Farm. From here the track rises steeply towards Paige Hill. This should provide a good test of fitness for most riders. From the top of the hill there are forestry tracks running in a westerly direction to explore.
