Croy Public Hall was built in 1908 and is well used by the community, whether individually or user groups.
From May 2015 to October 2015, the hall underwent major refurbishment to create a modern and efficient building. The windows were replaced with double glazed windows, external doors were replaced, the lighting was fully upgraded and much easier to control and with the dimmer facility, the lighting can be easily adjusted to suit the the individual user(s) and insulation was fitted in all internal external walls. This work was possible due to the hall committee applyiing for funding and a grant of £91,500 was received from Climate Challenge Fund (CCF) and without this funding, the committee would not have been able to carry out all of the above work in one year.
The committee made other funding applications for other work that needs to be carried out and have received £7,000 from Highland Council Ward 18 Discretionary Budget and our thanks go to Councillors Roddy Balfour and Kate Stephen, along with Ward Manager Mr Jimmy Flint.
A further £10,000 was received from Awards for All Scotland to funding variours items, including work to the main hall floor, replacement curtains and blinds and substantial items for the kitchen.
A further £1,500 was received from the Ward Discretionary Budget towards a commerciak dishwasher.
In addition to this, £1,000 was received from SSE to fund the installation of the changeover switch so that a generator could be used in situations of loss of power in the local community.
