your sea glass
Your sea glass jewelry is beautiful Nick. I am interested in knowing the origin of the glasses. I find different glass on the U.S. Atlantic shore. Mostly blues and greens and opaques and browns. A few reds where older glass is found, from lights in the nearby harbor and mastheads.

Thank you Diane. The glass I find originates from the town of Cromarty when in times gone by it was OK to throw trash into the sea. I can only assume that the bulk of the glass I find comes from bottles. I cannot determine the exact ages but from time to time I find a date - the oldest being the late 1700s! It is a great moment when I find glass from an ornamental piece which means delicate colours and possibly shapes and markings. I sometimes look with envy at the vibrant colours people find elsehwere around the world - but I am never tempted to buy any. I like using the glass I find here. Great to hear from you and thanks for taking the time to write. Best wishes - Nick.

Cromarty Sea Glass Jewellery
Very interested to see your site. My grandmother, Mary Barwell, lived on Braehead in Cromarty for many years and she too, made jewellery from 'sea glass'. She and her sister, Jean had 'wee shops' stocked with one off hand made pieces of jewellery, knitting - in fact almost anything as I recall. Yours looks very beautiful and if and when I next visit Cromarty, I will look you up.

Hi Philippa - thanks for your interesting message. It is great to know that sea glass from Cromarty has been used as jewellery well before me. I wonder if anyone lacally has a piece or two still. Best wishes, Nick.
