Campbeltown

Campbeltown  is one of the best natural harbours on the West Coast of Scotland. Visiting yachts can berth at the pontoon (fresh water and electricity hook-up), operated by Campbeltown Loch Berthing Company.

At present there are no visitor moorings in Campbeltown Loch. The area in front of the Campbeltown Sailing Clubhouse is the subject of a moorings agreement/licence between the Club and the Crown Estate. There are normally 20 moorings with yellow buoys within the area. These moorings are exclusively for the use of CSC members. While there is nothing to prevent visitors dropping their hooks for an overnight stay amongst CSC boats the Club does not recommend it. The holding is not particularly good, it may be difficult to get adequate swinging room and there is the risk of fouling the moorings. If visitors prefer not to use the yacht pontoon or to lie alongside the Pier, it is recommended that they use the area on the south side of the Loch east of the front leading light. This is marked with an anchor on the chartlet on the Campbeltown page of Reeds Nautical Almanac and in many other sailing directions and lies at the centre of this Googlemap.

There is also a webcam which shows views of the Loch and the berthing pontoon, useful if you want to know what the weather is doing here.

The “Wee Toon”, as it is known, is well supplied with watering holes for thirsty sailors, restaurants to feed the hungry, 2 supermarkets to replenish supplies and a ships chandler (Admiralty chart agent). We also have one of the oldest cinemas in the country if you fancy an evening at the pictures.

Showers are available at Aqualibrium leisure centre only a stone's throw from the pontoon.

The following facilities are also usually available: Fuel (Petrol and Diesel in cans), Gas, Gaz, Supermarkets (Tesco and Co-op), public toilets, several bars and hotels, post office, laundrettes, airport (twice daily flights to Glasgow, weekdays only), fast ferry service to Ballycastle in Northern Ireland, tourist office, hardware stores, dentist, GP surgery, A&E. There are timber blocks for drying out on public slipway.
