Ephemeral Lives…….
I’ve been thinking about how ephemeral life is becoming. On Orkney Wildlife Facebook, and on Ancient Stone Bothering Facebook, people post some truly exceptional images. A few days later, they’ve gone down the scroll, and when will they be seen again?
I also have some FB friends who post wonder-full images on their personal pages – again, after a few days/weeks – who looks at them?
I do it too – I post photos which I’m very pleased with, in the knowledge that, come next week – who’ll look at them or remember them?
Maybe some of these people and groups keep hard copies of some kind? The Orkney News posts some very strong material but – is it all stored digitally?
I used to print out my pieces From The Orkney News but they became too numerous so I stopped!
Life is ephemeral – no point trying to kid ourselves that it isn’t but we used to try to keep memories and images in a more long-lasting form.
On the telly there are ads. for photo albums, as though they’re a new idea. We still print out pics. and put them in a photo album – but they’re mostly of family. Some of our albums hold a lot of life.
That’s another aspect of this – do folk only store their treasured family pics. in their machines?
Just…thinking…..
