News about things that are happening or have happened in Ardersier. Please provide us with details of events you would like publicised here. ARDCO AGM The ARDCO AGM will take place on the 8 November 2011. All members (and non members) are encourage to attend. Ardersier in Bloom ARDCO has registered with Royal Horticultural Society for the “It’s Your Neighbourhood” campaign. It is hoped that this will set Ardersier on its way to the “Village in Bloom” scheme in the future. Working with the Community Council, the focus for the project this year will be along the High Street and at key points along the shore line. This can be as simple as planting tubs and baskets to display in these areas. Community involvement is key to the campaign and ARDCO will be contacting community groups to ask how they feel that they can become involved in the project. Assessors have visited the village and we await their report. ARDCO has been working with a number of youth organisations including Action for Children and local youth workers to develop a strategy to improve the facilities and activities for teenagers living in Ardersier. This strategy includes developing a dedicated youth café/hub to provide a safe and welcoming environment where young adults can meet and socialise. A young adults’ activities programme is also being considered to both develop individuals and where possible benefit the community. The Strategy can be found under documents. “DIG YOUR HEART OUT.” Dig your heart out is a successful initiative devised by Dave Saunders of Highlands and Islands Youth for Christ (HIYFC). It involves supervised groups of youth volunteers carrying out a “Ground Force” style garden makeovers. The gardens would be nominated by the community, hopefully the nominees would be those who, for one reason or another can no longer keep up with the work required to maintain their garden. This scheme has already been tried and tested in the Merkinch area of Inverness and has had a great impact on youth relations within the community. In August 9 children conducted a very successful makeover of 'Jessie's' garden over a few days and then had a BBQ with another DYHO group in Rosemarkie. Thanks to all the children and adults involved. It is hoped to conduct another event in October. Did You Know? ARDCO is Ardersier’s community company, owned and run by its members.
