The Light Bulb Moment
I guess it was about three years ago, with a rather large mortgage, ever increasing energy bills and an income not keeping pace with inflation that we decided we had to take some action.
Downsizing was the potentially quick and easy solution but that seemed a negative step and didn't really address the energy side of things.
Many months passed and whilst we identified where we wanted to move to, Hastings, all the houses we liked were what I called 'Beautiful Victorian/Georgian Moneypits' as you would probably need a second mortgage to heat the places. During this journey we stumbled across a proposed development of Zero Carbon houses and the energy saving seed was sown.
Many more months passed as we researched how we could have an energy saving Victorian/Georgian house? At this point I should say a big thank you to the Green Building Forum, a fantastic resource for any energy conscious self builder. This resource helped me discover the benefits of Passive House building as well as smart and affordable building techniques. Armed with all this new found information we designed our very own
