What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu literally means 'finger pressure'. Like acupuncture, it stimulates the body's natural healing abilities by gentle limb rotations and stretches and pressure with the fingers, thumbs, and sometimes feet, to specific points, and across the whole body.
How does it work?
Vital energy, (or 'Ki' in Japanese), flows through the body in a series of channels. If this energy stops flowing freely, usually as a result of stress-induced tension that we are not always aware of, pain or dysfunction can occur. This can present as frequent tummy or intestinal upsets, skin disorders or aches and pains in muscles and joints, which seem to have no obvious cause,
People who seek Shiatsu may wish to have better sleep patterns, be calmer, have more balance in their lives. If our energy is out of balance, we may feel as though we're fighting to get through life, and it hurts. When we are in balance, things start to become easier. We feel 'in the flow', and aches and pains can just disappear.
Shiatsu promotes a deep feeling of wellbeing, and when clients leave a session they report feeling:-
‘Lighter’; ‘Very relaxed’; ‘As though a load has been lifted off my shoulders’; ‘More supple’ ; ‘Energised!’; 'Painfree', or ‘I just feel better!'..
Shiatsu is a luxurious and deeply relaxing experience.
