Writing in the Sand is a novel set on the mythical Dark Island, just north of Inverness. For those of you who know the Highlands, this book will be a romp through familiar places as you have not seen them before. For the rest, it is 'a 468 page comic fantasy which rattles along at a furious pace,' (North Star) set in the tranquil surroundings of a typical Scottish island.

The book is available now in all good bookshops in Scotland. For those of you who live outside the bounds of that fair country, the book is also on amazon.co.uk

Writing in the Sand

writing in the sand Jimmy stood perfectly still for a few minutes, then reached out with his rake, dropped its head onto the sand and pulled. He stepped sideways, reached out and pulled, stepped sideways again, then again. The tines of the rake hissed as they pulled through the sand, rang as they knocked on small stones.

He pulled the rake one last time and stepped back, looking at the lightly furrowed surface. He nodded with satisfaction. It looked just right. A regular pattern of tiny furrows - a picture of perfect harmony. Except for one place.

On the tip of the Dark Island lies the tranquil little fishing village of Cromness . But something is wrong in Cromness.

A strange fog descends, strange beings are seen in the fields and the dolphin boat encounters that savage predator, the fiddle-nosed grunion! Where will it end?

Soon the characters are involved in a battle to either save or destroy the Dark Isle. But are they truly aware of the scale of events? Who will prevail?

"Fantastic book! I kept thinking I knew where it was going -  then it didn't go there."
