   Wokingham Royal Charter Market.

Wokingham is an autonomous Borough in the Royal County of Berkshire, one of six since the County Council was removed. It is somewhat overshadowed by its neighbouring Boroughs. Reading is the County Town and has many features, The Madejski Stadium, the Hexagon, the Rock Festival site, the River Thames, its churches, schools and other architectural profferings. North-East of Wokingham is the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead with all their respective Riverside attractions, especially Windsor with the Castle.

The Wokingham Market was granted the Royal Charter in 1219 by the King for Tuesdays then Thursdays were added later. Almost 800 years ago, that was and today the Market has been redefined with Fridays and Saturdays being included. However, the King, Henry III, was underage at the time (1220) and the Royal Charter for Wokingham Market was signed by him in 1227.

The Traders arrive from various areas and once a month, the first Thursday is a Farmers Market. Periodically, there are Continental Markets, with produce from E.U. countries on sale.

There are roughly 2? pitches and all traders sell quality wares with Council Market staff on hand for many reasons. The staff are friendly and very helpful to traders and public alike. The Traders are also very friendly and are willing to speak with the public about various topics from being asked directions to discussing the latest roadworks. After all, FORUM is Latin for a market place and that is what used to happen in the era of the Ancient Romans.
