Welcome to
TURTON BOWLING CLUB
Rear of 82 Wellington Road, Turton, Bolton. BL7 0EO
The bowling green was constructed in 1924 thanks to the generosity of
SIR LEES AND LADY KNOWLES.
The facilities were poor however and only catered for men. There were no water or lighting supplies and only an outside toilet.
Until the 1990's the club bumped along supported by a few villagers.
A membership drive drew in members from a wider area and ideas began to form as to how the amenities could be improved.
Following a fundraising campaign applications were made to the Foundation for Sports and the Arts and the National Lottery Fund, both of which were successful. The result is the fine facility we enjoy today.A nice Clubroom, fitted kitchen, mens and ladies toilets (including disabled) and T V quality floodlights, supported by a challenging well maintained green.
Ladies now form over 30% of the membership.
Bowls are the sport everyone can play from 9 to 90 either just for pleasure or competitively in one of the nine teams we field in six local leagues.
