President’s Welcome:

Since I took over as President it has been my great pleasure to introduce The Spirit of Klunker initiative. With burgeoning media interest and players salaries it is easy to forget cricket’s heritage; we forget that the reputation of the game is made by the deeds of those players who lived the dream for us lesser mortals.

Cricket being what it is, for some players the revolving-door of Success spins quickly round to the other door marked Exit, usually sparked by some unaccountably freak accident such as a selector losing their memory. Sadly all too often this is accompanied to howls from public and Press of ‘we told you so’.

Tony Pigott, Mark Lathwell, and Mike Smith, or ‘the new Ian Botham’s’ of David Capel and Mike Watkinson: these are but a few of the names that I had in mind when planning the Spirit of Klunker initiative.

Pleased as I am with the introduction of boundary-edge slot-machines, the ‘midnight sun’ TV deal with Faroe Island Broadcasting Corporation and the 02/02-overs Cup, I would particularly draw your attention to the new Klunker Hall of Fame. Here we salute those who dared to dream the dream of heroes, and awoke to find themselves in The Klunker Hall of Fame.
