Welcome toThe Barton GardenersAbout UsThe Barton Gardeners (also known as The Barton Horticultural Society) is group of enthusiastic gardeners based in the village of Barton, about 4 miles south-west of Cambridge. What we doDuring the year we have a few evening meetings, generally in the Village Hall, with a speaker on a subject of some gardening interest. We have some morning events, mainly coffee mornings with a difference. For example, coming up to Christmas we offer mince pies and at another time we have offered "bacon butties"; and/or we have combined a coffee morning with a "bring & buy" exchange of our own plants. At least once each year we have a coach trip. Recent destinations for these outings have included the RHS gardens at Wisley and at Hyde Hall, Barnsdale Gardens and Savill Gardens. The Village Day and our Annual ShowOur major event is the Barton Village Day – we share the organisation with St.Peter’s Church PCC. For us, the main part of the day is our Annual Show in a marquee in the school grounds where villagers exhibit their work from flowers to photographs, from vegetables to cakes. Several trophies are presented for the best exhibits.NewsletterWe publish a newsletter which is delivered to each member household, free of charge. The frequency is irregular, depending on the editor’s workload and on members’ contributions, but there are several each year. Each autumn and spring, we offer members the change to order plants and/or bulbs from a nursery at wholesale prices. Also, in the winter, members may order seeds and gardening sundries from the catalogue of one of the major seed suppliers at a significant discount. Some local Garden Centres and suppliers offer a significant discount on purchases by our members. Many of our members save more than the cost of the membership subscription each year with these benefits. The present membership subscription is:£10 per household (£5 for single occupancy)If you wish to join us (and we hope you do), please click on 'FEEDBACK' in the left hand column and then use the enquiry form or leave your name and contact details in our folder in the village Post Office.
