SKI IN SJUSJOEN

Ski in Sjusjoen........Sjusjoen in the Lillehammer area of Norway is home to arguably the finest Cross Country Skiing possibilities in Europe.      The forest land and Fell (Fjell) area to the east of Lillehammer provides a terrain which is absolutely perfect for mid grade cross country skiing.   The lower altitude forests with a terrific network of ski trails give way to open fell with a scattered tree cover culminating in summits of around 995 metres, all with excellent ski access and mostly prepared tracks to the summits.   The highest point is Nevelfjell, 1089m, just NW of Nordseter.    Many of the summits make excellent objectives as day tours.

Ski tracks wind their way through the forests, past frozen lakes, out onto the open fjell, passing scatterings of beautiful cabins and small settlements.                  A wonderful place to be.  The views are always extensive.    To the south lie the lower farmlands and forests of Gudbrandsdalen.  Northwards and westwards there are fine views of Rondane and Jotenheimen, on a sunny morning the massive of Svinfjellet is lit up by the morning sun.

There are hotels to stay in, hostels, cabins to rent, cafes for daytime refreshment and even music and dancing in the evenings.
